Mr. Robert Earl Mays was born to the parentage of the late Willie V. and Versie J. Mays on August 28, 1943 in Gastonia, Texas. On Saturday, September 27, 2025, one that we loved and knew was called from labor to reward, where he shall receive his crown of life. That was promised to all who faithfully serve our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Robert received his education at CartWright High School in 1961 in Wills Point, Texas. His passion was serving the metroplex with his yard work. He took pride in making sure his crew left your yard looking great. He chartered his bus to many different states.. He enjoyed traveling, spreading the gospel through song, and spending time with his family. He was everybody’s daddy, paw paw, and uncle.
His Christian journey began at Hardin Foundation under the leadership of his late uncle Willie E. Hardin, which is now Holy Temple COGIC on South Adelaide in Terrell, Texas. He later joined United COGIC under the leadership of his late uncle, Evangelist O.J. Mays. He served as Deacon, Choir President, he had many other duties. He was a member of The Heavenly Gates, a group founded by his father and uncles. He loved singing! Robert, his brothers, and cousins started their own group, The Gates of Paradise. They sang for over 50 years. We will miss those high notes that only he could sing.
Robert married Betty J. Gunter, September 28, 1963. To this union, 6 children were born. They were married 36 years. Later on, he married Lue Ella Tugwell. They were married 25 years. Robert E. Mays was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, two brothers, and two daughters. He leaves to cherish in his memory: his devoted wife, Lue Ella Mays; children, Robbie Mays Brumley, Keith (Carlotta) Mays, Sedrick E. Mays, and Kristy L. Mays; two brothers, Edward E. Mays, James (Annie) Mays; one sister, Emma (Norris) Hunt; his extended family, one daughter, Lakisha Glaspie; two sons, Corey (Jennifer) Tugwell, Brian Tugwell; 25 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and a host of other family and friends

Daddy Robert will live forever in my heart. He spiritually mentored into my life the importance of serving God. He took me and my children on his bus to church. His voice of an angel will sing on. RIH Robert Mays, whose crown is well deserved. 1 Peter 5:4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.
May the Lord comfort and strengthen you and your family at this time of loss of your love one. Hold on to God unchanging hand. Always in my prayers.🙏🏽💐🛐
